My thesis titled
A Study of the
DeviceNet Conformance Test and the Definition of the DeviceNeX protocol.
In summary it extends the existing DeviceNet protocol that
uses 11-bit CAN identifier to 29-bit, making full use of the extra 18 bits. One
of the great advantages of this protocol is that it allows the transfer of up to
10 bytes of I/O data, and reduce the interrupt rate to the slave devices since
both source and destination addresses are placed at the identifier field -
filtering can be applied. For more detailed description, read here.
